stories of plants, people & place

Welcome to TILTH, the journal of gardens, plants, people and place.

We’re design driven, plant loving, place curious adventurers, and TILTH is the destination for the dispatches we send from our horticultural explorations both near and far.

We love to go places: big trips, small journeys and tiny doorstep moments.  We’re always curious, eyes wide open, taking in new worlds and soaking up the wonder.  From Rhododendron forests in Nepal to cactus strewn hillsides in Gran Canaria to contemporary gardens in Paris to peeping over allotment walls, we love to visit gardens and landscapes in interesting places to discover the plants that grow there and to see how people make gardens in other climates and environments.

Wandering through a landscape and seeing plants in their natural habitat is where we find much of our garden design inspiration. Watching, observing and noticing the tiny details is how we understand what makes a plant thrive. And seeing how a garden’s design reflects its setting, its sense of place and its surrounding culture, is how we understand its story and its history.

And everyone we meet along the way reminds us how gardening is a shared language that brings people together. The desire to journey, to create a garden, to cultivate a piece of land and to nurture plants is one of the oldest human stories, and it’s the one we hope to share with you here.
